Before you read...

We already know a major part of the plot of this memoir before we start reading.

Why, then, is it important for us to read Runyon's story?

The important thing about Runyon's experience isn't that he tried to kill himself, it's that he survived, and re-entered a world he felt the need to escape from.

The one thing that Brent learned throughout his whole process is how much people care for him, and how many people would be upset if he wouldn't survived. Brent changed, but in a good way at that.
